I Get Asked This A Lot:
What Actually Happens in a Free Consultation Call?
If you've never reached out to a therapist before, picking up the phone can feel like the hardest part. You might be exhausted, anxious, or not even sure what you'd say. So here's exactly what to expect when you call for a free consultation — no surprises.
It's short, and there's no pressure
The call usually takes about 15 minutes. You're not committing to anything by calling, and you won't be signing up for therapy on the spot. Think of it as a chance for both of us to see if working together feels like a good fit — nothing more.
What I'll ask you
I'll ask a little about what's bringing you in right now. That might be:
- Anxiety or low mood during pregnancy or after having a baby
- Feeling overwhelmed by a major life transition
- A sense that something feels "off," even if you can't quite name it
You don't need to have it all figured out before you call. Many people start with "I'm not really sure how to explain it" — and that's a completely normal place to start.
What you can ask me
This is also your chance to get a feel for how I work. Common questions people ask:
- What's your experience with [postpartum anxiety / depression / a specific concern]?
- What does a typical session look like?
- What are your fees, and do you accept insurance?
- How soon could I get an appointment?
There's no wrong question here. If something feels important to you, it's worth asking.
What happens next
If it feels like a good fit, we'll find a time for your first full session. If it doesn't feel like the right match — for any reason — I'm glad to help point you toward someone who might be a better fit. My goal is for you to find the right support, even if that ends up being with someone else.
If you're on the fence about calling
That hesitation is normal, especially for new parents who are already stretched thin. But a 15-minute call is a small step, and it's one you can take without deciding anything else yet.
